My Valentine’s Day Date

A night full of snow, love and great food in Pennsylvania can really make you feel alive. The spirit of the city makes you feel young and good company makes you want to repeat this until you are elderly.

James and I had planed a while back to have a Valentine’s Day “date”. Instead of actually going out on Valentine’s Day, we decided to go out the Saturday before.

Not too long ago, I had made a post asking my readers to help me decide which dress I should acquire from ModCloth. After much internal deliberation, bugging my fiancé, a comment, and asking Brian (my stepfather), I finally decided to get the Ever-Changing World Dress. I absolutely adore this dress! 😀

Lilly was at her dad’s enjoying Pop pop’s birthday, while Benji went to visit his Abuelo and Abuela (James’ mother and stepfather).

James and I had a reservation at seven o’clock at Derek’s Restaurant in Manayunk, Philadelphia. The food was delectable and the staff was kind. I had French Onion Soup, Cesar Salad, Grilled Flatiron Steak and Carnival Style Funnel Cake. James had the French Onion Soup, Grilled Filet of Salmon and Triple Layer Chocolate Cake.

While I was eating my salad, I noticed that it almost had a sweet taste to it. It was by far the best salad I have ever had, and I have had a lot of salads.

I also had my first legal drink at Derek’s. It was the Strawberry Shortcake Cocktail, and it was divine. It was a tad bit strong, but still very enjoyable.

After our dinner, James and I walked, quite literally, “right” around the corner to the Bourbon Blue. Since it was my first time at a bar, I had no idea what to get. After about five to minutes trying to figure it out, the bartender just mixed me up something good. However, the poor guy had to make it twice because I forgot that I am allergic to peaches.

After a few minutes of being at the bar, our friend Dave met up with us. It was truly a delight to catch up with him. It has been almost an entire year since we have seen him.

Around 12am, James and I headed home, but not before picking up our little poop machine. 🙂 To be honest, it is very hard to relax when my children are away from me and I am unable to micromanage whomever is taking care of them. I guess that’s just a mommy trait that will not be going away anytime soon.

All in all, I had an enchanting night finally getting to enjoy time with just James. It was much-needed.

I am curious, what did you do for Valentine’s Day?
Even if you just sat on the couch and ate Cheetos all day…Let me know! Comment on this post, email me, or tweet it! (@MANICxIDIOT)
